Germinal Velocity IV is one of two sculptures which embody the idea of change and the imprint of organic (natural) growth on shapes from the inside out. The various marks these expanding forces leave under the skin or bark, create knots of interlocking and changes direction. These are all marks of struggle for survival and fulfillment, the urge to reach our full potential. The same shape would have evolved differently in a perfectly fit world.

Nicolae Golici, a Romanian emigre who has lived in New York since 1987, draws on personal and political circumstances to find analogies between the basis of natural growth and the structure of society. His work is concerned with a person's inner potential to overcome the hardships of everyday life.

Mr. Golici has an MFA in sculpture from the Institute of Fine Arts Bucharest, Romania. He has exhibited throughout the tri-state area as well as Europe and has been awarded grants from the New York Foundation. His sculpture can be found in private and public collections in Romania, Belgium and the United States.
