Artist Statement
My music collages celebrate the joy of music and the joy of the people performing music. Using memory and a sketch to reframe that moment, I simplify figures and construct space by using blocks of color broken by pattern. Handmade papers, cut-up watercolors, prints, fabric as well as Color Aid paper create texture, movement and the emotional tone. The challenge of every figure is to capture the essential gesture.
These stories marry abstract design with representational forms to mirror the beauty and adventure of our humanity. I want to create images in which the viewer can rest from the troubles of the world.
