Event Details

Hailed as interpreting with “profundity and power” (RuideroXXI, Mexico City), sTem features clarinetist Eric Christian Umble, soprano Meagan Amelia Brus, and pianist Sophia Subbayya Vastek.  Formed in 2013 at Manhattan School of Music, sTem has performed numerous concerts throughout the United States and abroad, including in their native New York City at Spectrum and the DiMenna Center on a billing with the JACK Quartet and Manhattan Saxophone Quartet.  They were also presented in November 2014 by the National Clarinet Conference in Mexico City, Mexico where they performed a recital in Xochipilli Hall and conducted masterclasses at Escuela Nacional de Música and Escuela Superior de Música.

sTem is dedicated to sharing their passion for music and facilitating cultural dialogue through education.  Their programs connect with audiences beyond the traditional concert experience by infusing performances with theatrical elements.  sTem focuses on expanding the repertoire by re-imagining existing works and commissioning new ones through collaborations.  These include an arrangement and english translation of Arnold Schoenberg’s monodrama Erwartung.  Reduced and translated for the ensemble by composer and theorist Dr. Peter Andreacchi, it was presented in a spring 2015 tour around the northeast.  sTem also commissioned an original work by Giovanni Piacentini that sets contemporary Mexican poetry by Fausto Alzati, which sTem premiered in Mexico City in 2014.  sTem has commissioned settings of Rainer Maria Rilke by American composer Rex Isenberg which have been performed in Prague, Mexico City, and across North America.
